Rachel met Clint in a diner one night while she was on the road trying to escape her past. From the moment they lay their eyes on each other, sparks fly. He offers her a job on his ranch and even though she's a city girl, she accepts. It's not long before they give into their attraction and settle into life together on the ranch. They find happiness in each other's arms and Clint quickly wonders if Rachel is the girl that can give him his happily ever after. Rachel's past eventually comes back to haunt her, and threatens her happiness with Clint.
Can they work through their demons of the past and find their happily ever after?
Or will Rachel leave Clint just like she fled her life before?
This is a cute, quick read but sometimes to the point of over the top. I just found it a bit unbelievable that Rachel would put all her insecurities aside to start working for and starting up another relationship so quickly after running from her past one.
I loved Clint’s family especially his mother in how accepting she was of Rachel and Clint sleeping in the same room and hooking up so quickly. You can’t tell me, she didn’t’ hear through those thin walls? There are also a few other things that happened in such a quick succession that seemed a bit exaggerated.
Other than those little peeves I had about the book – it was a quick read and sucked you in anticipating on what was going to happen next. Wondering when Rachel’s past was going to catch up to her.
Rachel is on the run from her ex-boyfriend. He’s not the same person he once was when they were younger. She finds out that he is into some illegal dealings with drugs and after a confrontation which ends in her getting roughed up – she hightails it out of there.
Needing food and sleep, Rachel decides to stop at a hotel with a diner connected to it and can’t take her eyes off some “man-candy” sitting a few tables away. The first thing she notices is how well he fills out his Wranglers. It comes as a surprise to Rachel when he stops by her table and offers her a job on his ranch.
Rachel feels that she will safe at his ranch because it would be the last place anyone would look for her, plus it’s a bonus that Mr. Wrangler Pants works there too.
The rest of the story follows Clint and Rachel’s relationship and how Clint learns that it doesn’t matter how long you know someone or how short…you just KNOW when you met the woman who you want to spend the rest of your life with.
Just when things are going good, the past finally comes to haunt Rachel’s happiness.
Yes, the book is a bit “over the top” but if you believe in fairy tales….and HEA’s – this is the book for you.
